Dylan Lemaster attends middle school in Cleveland. He has a severe visual impairment.
His condition was taking its toll, in school, at home, and in his personal life. In school, Dylan relied on braille, which he was having difficulties with. In addition, Dylan required his parents to read to him from his favorite catalogs and books.
OrCam MyEye 2
During a presentation of assistive technology products, Dylan discovered the OrCam MyEye 2. Dylan was intrigued by its abilities. OrCam MyEye 2 is the most advanced wearable assistive technology device for people who are blind, visually impaired or have reading difficulties that can read text, identify products, faces, colors and more. It’s text reading features would allow him to read text from any digital or printed surface. The device would also identify money notes, faces, products, colors and more.
Dylan became very interested in the device. He was convinced that he would achieve a level of independence at school and at home that he was not able to achieve due to his visual impairment. Since Dylan has been using OrCam MyEye 2, his quality of life has increased substantially. These new capabilities are helping Dylan achieve a level of independence he was missing in his life.
Dylan said about his new life with OrCam:
“It makes me feel like I’m not visually impaired. That I’m reading a regular book that somebody with full vision can read.”
Dylan’s father said that: “It helps him give him much independence, and helps him blend in at school a bit more with things. It gives him the freedom to pick up any written text at any point in time, and access that information on his own. We’re very fortunate that he has the OrCam MyEye.” Dylan later added “I don’t need to ask anyone for help anymore. I can do things more on my own without having to ask somebody like, “Hey can you read this to me? Hey, what’s this?”
Dylan and his parents were hosted on the Steve Harvey Show who was excited about the device and called it a “Game Changer”.
