The Inspiring Story of Taylor Shaw: How OrCam MyEye Helped this MIT Student Return to School

College is a stressful time for any student. With papers to write and textbooks to read, college can be a real challenge to the average 18 year old right out of high school. Now imagine having to go through college with difficulty reading. This is the reality of Taylor Shaw.
Taylor is a MIT student and OrCam user who suffered anoxic brain injury in 2014 after an exercise run in Boston. She is a very talented young woman and what happened to her was tragic, however, with the best care and support by friends, family and caregivers, Taylor went from a 0% chance of survival to being able to think/reason, albeit without her vision.
After her injury, Taylor was treated for five weeks where she was unconscious majority of the time. The initial prognosis was Persistent Vegetative State for the rest of her life. But this was not the case.
After four weeks of treatment, Taylor started to regain consciousness and after three months of hard work in rehab, Taylor began to walk. She has only progressed since then. Now, two years after her accident, Taylor is improving every day. She is back at school and using her OrCam MyEye to help her read her homework, textbooks, hallway signs, and more.
While her vision has improved gradually, it is still very hard for Taylor to read. Taylor gets the most from her OrCam MyEye and recommends it to others with difficulty reading.
“When I first started using it, I was amazed by how accurate it was” says Taylor “the OrCam is a wonderful technology, and I am very lucky to have it.”
